Born in the year 1998, Jessica Gopaul is a Trinidadian self-published author and poet who loves literature. Jessica attended the Penal Presbyterian Primary School (2003 - 2010) and then went on to ASJA Girls’ College (Barrackpore) (2010 - 2015). She then transferred to Iere High School Siparia to pursue CAPE (2015 - 2017). Jessica first started writing poetry in form 3 of high school and often made the highest in her literature classes. She also participated in and won several poetry competitions, internally and externally, from her school. She is also a graduate of the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), possessing a B. Ed. specializing in Geography with Magna Cum Laude honors. Since then, she has had a lot of experience, success, and improvement in which she went on to self-publish her first poetry book, Annie (2023).
Jessica is known for being passionate about poetry. The reason she loves writing poetry, especially spoken word, is because it gives her a voice and a creative way to express herself. She believes that we can express ourselves to make people aware of the severity of situations; whether it be pleasant situations or horrific ones. Whenever she closes her eyes, she seems to fade into a place where her spiritual body becomes immersed in situations where she can write about environments, people, and their feelings.
